5.0 out of 5 stars Efficient and durable, have mine for four years! Energy efficient and Heat large rooms! (9yr Update)

*Scroll to bottom for 9 year update!*

Purchased five of these four years ago, during winter 2011. My wife and I live in NYC, the apartment we lived in at the time had issues with the heating system. The landlord and I worked out a deal so I may purchase these and he'd cover the expenses (I get to keep them), including the difference on the electric bill. We lived in a large second floor four bedroom apartment.

The heat emitted from these are wonderful and the automatic setting keeps each room you have one in extremely comfortable. After having moved from the apartment gave 2 back to the landlord which, he left in the apartment for the next tenants (new tenants are friends of mine and love the heaters). In my new apartment I still use one of the three heaters in addition to the apartments heating system to keep it comfortable at all times. Lent one to a friend of my wife's who's heating went out while landlord was away for a few days and she loved it - preferred it over the regular heating system. She asked if she may keep it for longer and kept it for a few months until she decided to purchase one.

You may use one in a large room and it works extremely well. In our previous apartment the master bedroom was huge. It was big enough to fit a queen size bed (could've easily fit a king), with entire bedroom set, two large wardrobe closets, a long full-size sofabed, desk with chair, and a chest of drawers - no it didn't look crowded and yes still had plenty space to spare - yes it really was in NYC.

Four years of use and the heaters still work just as well as the first day. Extremely energy efficient, doesn't make a big difference on the electric bill. We keep it on the automatic temperature setting so it turns on once it reaches below a specific setting. Even when it stays on for long periods of time doesn't make much of a dent on the electric bill.

9 Year Update:
My original review was written in 2015 (4 years after purchasing), this was my first winter in current apartment. After writing the review we decided to stop using the apartments heating system and fully switch back to using these heaters as we did in our previous apartment. The apartment uses steam radiators (just like previous apartment) and we originally figured it would work out using it here better than in our previous apartment. It did heat the apartment much better than the previous one, however it heated the apartment a bit too much. The amount of steam and heat even if turned down extremely low, was unbearable - plus it would randomly start emitting a loud banging noise (like someone hammering on the metal pipes within the walls) every so often which was extremely annoying especially in the middle of the night. We decided to turn the steam radiators completely off and started strictly using the Lasko heaters again. Two winters later, in 2017 two of the three heaters died out and completely stopped working in the beginning of winter - they lasted 7 long years without weakening or any other issues. We replaced them with two of the same exact heaters. The third heater is now 9 years old and it worked just as well as the two newer heaters during the last two winters (remainder of 2017 and all of 2018). We did purchase a Dyson fan/heater in summer of 2017 and then again in summer of 2018, as well as a small tabletop Lasko heater (also an extremely amazing heater by Lasko) which we placed on the bathroom windowsill. We do now also use them in addition to the three Lasko heaters, but only purchased them because we wanted to have the ability to keep the three Lasko heaters at significantly lower settings while still maintaining the desired apartment temperature. Since we also wanted to add fans for warmer weather, we decided it made sense to purchase all in one device's to not have to have two fans plus two extra heaters as we don't have much space for storage. While we also like the Dyson devices, the Lasko heaters by far outperform the heat from the Dyson devices. The Dyson devices do have the pros of being cool to the touch and children cannot burn themselves with it, plus it has a wide angle setting which emits the heat for a whole section as opposed to only being directional. Either way, the Lasko heaters heat a room while only being directional and obviously last without losing strength for years to come. The Dyson devices seem to lose strength after continuous days of use and need to be powered off for a few hours every once in a while, and the first one purchased had completely stopped emitting heat on the fourth or fifth month of use. It may have been defective as once replaced neither of the two Dysons stopped emitting heat and hopefully last as well as the Lasko heaters - especially since they are by far significantly more expensive.

Hope the original review and this update help others who are looking to make a decision on whether or not it's worth the purchase.

Fyi, my friends (mentioned in original review) still have the ones we left for them in our previous apartment and they are also still going strong - which means 2 devices lasted 7 years, and then 9 years and 9 NY winters later the other 3 are still going strong. For less than $80 - you seriously can't go wrong!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for small room

This is a great heater! Works well in bedrooms and has the ability to set a desired temp. The oscillating function is perfect for disbursing the heat and its quiet. I bought another one after the initial purchase because of its ease of use and effectiveness for bedroom heating. Doesn't work great in big spaces but it helps keep a good temp range

This was not my first choice in purchasing a heater. Why? It just looks outdated. However, I knew it worked well because we have the same exact one at my family's home that we've been using for years.

First purchase: Amazing looking Vornado heater
Second purchase: Cool looking Dreo heater

Both the Vornado and Dreo were simple enough to use and looked like modern day pieces of equipment. I forget the exact model numbers but I had to return both because they just didn't warm up my small apartment. I still think both companies produce great products but the heater I purchased from both didn't cut it.

I decided to buy the tried and true Lasko and man this thing gets hot which is exactly what I wanted. I could do without the remote control. The heating element just simply works and it works well. The one request I have for Lasko is to please refresh or update the appearance so it doesn't look like I'm stuck the 80's!

I spend most of my day in my living room, and bought this heater to heat it.

It is fantastic. Generates a lot of heat very quickly and sustains it throughout the day. It has a nice sleek look to it so it doesn't take up much space in the room.

I highly recommend this heater.

5.0 out of 5 stars Got me through winter

Love this little trooper. My apartment is supposed to have central heating but the furnace has died each winter, and this time has a particularly frustrating problem of starting up and then stopping (which means naturally every time I call someone to fix it, it's magically working when they get here, just to shut down once they leave). Anyways, the point is I eventually just gave up and realized I wasn't going to have a heater for winter, which is bad when my apartment was getting down to 35 degrees (tested with a thermometer also bought on Amazon! What a world) I had grown up with those ancient little handheld space heaters that always had that burning smell so I didnt have high hopes, but this thing blew me away. Kept my one bedroom apartment a comfortable temperature throughout the worst days of winter, which is impressive considering I used it to heat my living room (which is also connected openly to my kitchen). If used in my room with the door closed it was downright hot. Well, well worth the money. Nothing to install or put together either and comes with a remote. Couldn't ask for better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional heater with great features

I bought two of these beauties when they were on sale. My old, drafty house really needs some help in the colder months, and the old heaters I was using were kaput. I was very impressed with the features these ceramic heaters have, as compared with my old ones. First of all, no red-hot coils glowing through the front grids. That always made me nervous, particularly with my heat-loving cats plopping themselves right in front of the heaters. What if their tails swished past the grids and the hair made contact with those coils?

Second, these heaters have a wonderful oscillating feature, so even if you're fairly close (say, three feet away), you're not getting a steady blast of hot air. It also helps distribute the heat to the rest of the area. It is a space heater, and not intended to heat the entire room. If you're working in a small office, though, it would definitely warm up the whole room. Having worked in chilly offices in my time, I really wish I'd had this heater!

Third, you have a choice of preset temperatures from 60 to 85 degrees, plus a MAX setting that lets you choose either high or low heat (the presets only work on the HIGH setting). I find that the MAX setting on low is perfect to keep me cozy but not overly warm at a distance of about three feet.

Fourth, it can be programmed to shut off at one to seven hours, nice if you want to warm up a bedroom before sleep but don't want it running all night.

Fifth, it's whisper-quiet on low or high. That was one reason I wanted to replace my old heaters, they made an annoying racket when they cycled on and off. And, there was no way to gauge the temperature you wanted, only a knob you could turn to decrease or increase the heat output.

Sixth, it has a remote control! This is so useful it might be the most attractive sale point of all. You can control every feature of the heater from the comfort of your bed or sofa.

The heater is completely safe, not just shutting off automatically if it tips over, but the outer casing remains completely cool. The front grid does get hot (well, duh!) but the rest of the heater stays safely cool around kids or pets, or even you if you're sometimes as clumsy as I am.

To sum up, I can't recommend this heater enough. If you can snag them on sale, get at least two or three of them. Never hurts to have a spare.

It's a quality space heater even for larger rooms. During the winter months it tends to get cold in my man cave downstairs. I no longer have to concern myself with freezing to death while playing the game. It looks cool enough and it's not very heavy. The temp settings go by increments of 5. If your worried about it overheating I was too, but that doesn't appear to be an issue. It also has a timer, I tend to forget to turn it off so it helps. I even bought one for my semis sleeper cab.

I had a similar Lasko that I had bought about 4 years ago and I was very happy with that one, but this one is SO much better. Same design and features as the old one, but it just seems to put out much more heat, even on the low setting. Four years of not regularly cleaning the intake vents (and I'm a smoker, too) and the old one went kaput!

I am using it in my dining nook of my apartment, where I sit at my computer most of the time. Big windows, nice view, but they radiate cold, even being double-paned (or maybe it's the wall below it; it IS an apartment, after all). This heater knocks that cold right out, but - unlike the old one - it heats the entire one bedroom apartment!

Great job, Lasko!

I love this heater. Our gas fireplace needed repair so the room was without heat for a couple of weeks. This heater warmed it and was quite quiet when running. I wish I had ordered two of them as I have another room that I like to keep a bit warmer. I love the remote and the fact I can operate it without having to get up to do it. I would recommend this heater even though I did notice a slight rise in the electric bill.
